Preliminary Requirements
There are several steps to take before attempting to set up a group hierarchy structure in your CygNet system. Groups and group hierarchies depend on other aspects of CygNet; you must first set up these items before proceeding.
In order for groups to work optimally, check to see that you have taken the following steps:
- Install, add, and configure all desired communication and remote devices, including UDCs.
- Add and configure all desired facilities, including facility attributes and linked facilities.
- Ensure that facility attributes accurately reflect the way your organization wants to view data.
- Add and configure all desired points in the Point Service (PNT).
- Have a clear idea of the purpose and organization of your group hierarchies.
- Ensure you know to whom your hierarchies will be distributed and what purposes they will serve.
Group hierarchies are meaningless unless you have data-producing items to add. And items cannot be added if they do not have attributes. Finally, your group hierarchies will not function optimally unless you have a very clear idea of the purposes they will serve and a design for implementing the hierarchies.
Once you have met the preliminary requirements and successfully set up group hierarchies, you can make alterations to your hierarchies as need arises.
